KeepVid Pro is a comprehensive software tool whose main function is downloading videos from YouTube and other similar video-sharing websites. According to the publishers, this tool would allow you to download videos from more than 10000 websites, so that you can use it to download practically any online video. Even more, you can also use it to convert your downloaded or already existing videos into a myriad of formats.

The program offers you a stylish and friendly user interface which, in the first instance, offers you two ways to download online videos: either by manually copying the video's URL and then clicking on the program's "Paste URL" button, or by using the "Download" button the program installs as an add-on for the main web browsers. In both cases you are allowed to select the download resolution and, in the case of the Paste-URL method, you can also opt for directly getting the video's audio stream as an MP3 file. There's a third available method to get videos, direct on-screen recording, which allows you to capture your full screen or just a portion of it with both the internal and external sounds (using your microphone).

Another section of the program is entirely dedicated to video conversion and audio extraction, another useful capacity of this program. You can convert the videos you obtained using any of the three mentioned methods, or any existing video file that you can add from your filesystem. The program supports a large variety of audio and video codecs and formats, both for the source and for the destination, including the well-known AVI, MPEG, WMV, MOV, MKV, 3GP, and MP4, as well as MP3, M4A, WAV, and MKA. You can convert the files in your source list individually, selecting different output formats for each, or in batches if you want to convert them all to the same format. What's more, you count on a good set of predefined profiles that allow you to get your converted videos ready to be played on such popular portable devices as iPhones, iPads, Android-based mobile phones (Samsung, Sony, Huawei, LG, etc.), and gaming consoles (PSP, PS3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii).

Next is "Transfer" section, which is capable of recognizing your devices running iOS 5 or later, and Android 2.2 or later, as soon as you connect them to your PC. Then you can transfer your download, recorded and/or converted video/audio files directly to those devices, without requiring the assistance of any third-party tool. Finally, there's also the "Online" section of the program, which acts as a very basic web browser for you to search for your online videos without leaving the program's interface. This section even offers you various shortcuts to some of the most popular video-sharing websites such as YouTube, Facebook, DailyMotion, Lynda, BBC, Vimeo, VEVO, and others. By the way, using KeepVid Pro you can also download entire channels and playlists from YouTube and Lynda, in one go.

In conclusion, KeepVid Pro offers you the perfect set of tools to get hold of your favorite online videos, make them compatible with your portable devices, and finally transfer the converted videos to those devices, so that you can enjoy them wherever. The only drawback I can find for this tool is that it doesn't allow you to customize the output settings (like the bitrate and the resolution) when converting video/audio files, so you need to settle with the program's defaults, though they produce excellent results in most cases.
